Farm to Table- An Inconvenient Truth

I am a big proponent of farm to table eating.  I am also fortunate to live in an area where Organic Farming has been a way of life for more than 3 centuries.  Robert Rodale who initially repopularized the concept in the 70’s started his magazine within a few miles of where I grew up.
If I were the management of Whole Foods I would be saying prayers in his memory every day!
Whenever I lecture to large audiences I stress the importance of Organic produce and foodstuffs.
Any meat I eat is organic grass fed as is the dairy, the fermented products and pretty much everything else.
I have always said that the last thing that will go in my life is the healthy food choices. It is expensive to eat well and healthy but I promise you it is worth every penny.

If you have been with me for a while though you know that I am a realist.  In my many many broadcasts on Omega 3 fish oil I stressed the need for purification since there are no clean oceans. I tried very hard to combat the hype put out by various companies that use the phrase “pure waters” or “clean oceans”.
Sorry my friends that is simply BS. And I think, if you want to live a long and healthy life you need to disabuse yourself of these notions.
Sadly the same is true for soil.  Even organic farming leads to toxicity in the produce and animals. Often organic farmers have to till the soil very deeply thus unearthing things like DDT that have long been outlawed.
Until we can actually access published analysis on the foods we eat it is safe to say there is no “clean soil” and no way to purify the food other than best farming practices.
Core samples of Antarctica dating back 200 years ago show numerous toxins and poisons and banned substances.  So if its there its probably in your soil as well.
So should you just give up and ingest toxins?!
Of course not.  Eating organic at least limits your exposure. But I think its wise to include detox herbs and supplements into your daily routines as well.  You want to fortify your organs especially your liver through what is known as Phase 1 and Phase 2 detoxification.  I won’t get into what that is but be aware you need both to function well or you may be in trouble, especially if you don’t eat clean and organic.
I always think of the numerous “medical authorities” over the years who say vitamins and supplements just give you expensive urine. Since your kidneys are part of the detox system you actually want expensive urine!!!
So eat organic but remember your supplements to crank up that detox.
Here is a list of favorites: curcumin, ashwaganda, silymarin, NAC, bromelain and broccoli sprouts and or extracts.
