Keeping us alive is a fine thing, especially if it means more decades and not just a few more years, but what people really want are health vital lifestyles for as long as possible.
Truthfully I can count on one hand the number of people who’ve told me they want to live forever.
But I would have to be a space monster to have enough hands to tell you the number of people who want to be healthy for the bulk of their lives.
So let’s catch up on some research.
First, longevity markers.
There are of course a few of them and perhaps the most important is your telomere (biologic time clock) length. At this moment TA-65 is the only thing out there that can lengthen your time clocks, but there are some things that can slow down the ticking so to speak.
Fish oil has also been shown to decrease “all cause” mortality in numerous studies and most recently it came up smelling roses in another “longevity” measure.
Two markers associated with kidney function that correlate with longevity are protein or lack of protein in the urine, and the rate at which your kidneys can filter, called GFR.
If you have no protein in your urine and a good solid GFR you are in good shape and set up to live a long time as long as you don’t get thrown under a bus!
Fish oil has protected kidney function in several studies now reducing inflammation, scarring and keeping the GFR and urine production rates high.
Interestingly it does the same thing in lung tissue, protects airflow and reduces inflammation and damage from toxins as a recent study in Mexico City pointed out.
It’s a brave new world out there and danger lurks at every turn.
Why not take some cheap insurance!
